TBA's Tikkun Olam Team

We are the social action, volunteer arm of TBA

We are guided by the Jewish principle of Tikkun Olam,
which means, literally, "to heal the world."

The mission of TBA’s Tikkun Olam Team is to inform, engage and mobilize our members to participate in a wide variety of activities both locally and globally to build a better world.

We will address issues facing us as Jews, citizens and members of the global community. There will be projects targeting Jewish and non-Jewish causes and involving varying levels of participation - from writing a check to wielding a hammer.

Please refer to the monthly Temple Bulletin for current T.O. activities!

Tikkun Olam Awarded $5000 UJA JSAM Grant

“Full Hearts – Empty Stomachs:” Focus on Hunger

In July, the UJA Federation of NY JSAM committee (Jewish Social Action Month) approved our proposal for a grant that will focus on hunger. There will be a variety of educational, advocacy and action programs throughout the year providing all segments of our congregation the opportunity to participate. We will have interfaith activities within our local Tarrytown community and joint programs with the Rivertowns Jewish Consortium.  The grant activity kicks off during Cheshvan (beginning on October 28)–designated as Jewish Social Action Month.

Adopt a Family

Adopt a Family

“La Asociación”

Shop only once a year! Make a real difference in the life of a local family in dire need!

Thank you to Deena Goldsmith and Stephanie Paul for purchasing the groceries for May.

What is Adopt A Family?  Each month “La Asociación” selects a family that is going through a particularly difficult time. Two TBA families volunteer to purchase a suggested list of supplies. The supplies are delivered to Jennefer Schifman’s home which is up the street from TBA. She delivers the supplies to the family who is able to feed their family more easily with these much needed staples.

Cost?  The cost seems to average around $50 per family although you can adjust according to your personal budget. To keep your costs down and to allow your money to go further, we suggest buying sale items, store brands or items from warehouse stores like Sam’s Club.

Contact: If you are interested, please contact Jennefer Schifman 914-631-7694; jrex1205@aol.com

Senior Luncheon

Senior Luncheon

May 15 – A Great Success!!

A special thank you to Jen Greenspoon for spearheading this wonderful event. Thanks also to the Westchester Klezmer Band and Shir Chadash for providing great entertainment. Lovely gifts were given to all our guests by our Crafts for a Cause knitters – thanks so much. Of course, this event would not have been a success without the 30+ volunteers who provided food and paper goods, set up, hosted, served, and cleaned up.
